My life problems. Financial aid..
My parents and I were hoping the financial aid package would have been better but, to our utter shock University of Washington was reluctant to help. I'm one the boarderline broke kids,lower-middle class family, with 2 other siblings. So today I'm hoping you can make a difference and support me. After my freshman year in college my mom strongly suggest pay for college myself and get loans under my name. My mom believes I would work harder if I was my own money. I'm sure to major in Business, probably marketing or finance. I have taken steps in reaching my goal. Today still I'm striving for my break I wish daily maybe some day someone will hear my cries for help. I do so many good deeds but, nothing is happening in my mind. I get the luxury of meeting new faces and adopt new skills. But to this day questions linger inside of me: How the heck can I pay for my college tuition? Even with a degree will anyone want to hire me in this rough economy.
During my senior year of high school I got in to my desired college but, there was the only issue of money. My parents seem reluctant to pay for my college. There tax return is holding me back, every time I'm applying for scholarship I get the dreaded letters of rejection. I didn't fit under the need based category nor was I smart enough for the other "Einstein" genius scholarships. The other students in the College Access Now (CAN) were all receiving happy letters and scholarships. I sat there and sighed, they all rejected me! I have a nice resume activities, decent GPA 3.8, and letters of recommendations and volunteers come in to edit my essays. After my 10 scholarship rejection I was basically immune. My routine turned into open the letter glance for the word sorry, or there was a high number of applicants though we a sorry we can't help you, then I would recycle it!
I have done great things to help my community. I started volunteering in High school and continued. I have been with countless organizations DECA, Wing luke asian museum, Jefferson Community Center, Team Read, and more.
Weeks passes while friends continued happily opening there mailboxes I was heartbroken. Rejection... It was now early April/May I had just applied to ALVA a immersion camp for UW business student you get to learn all day and you get paid for it! I would have done this program for free. And you get to intern with Boeing airplanes. Cha Ching?!? Nope another road block. Rejected. They were really picky, only 10 people. I wished I could have been experienced the ALVA program like the kids on the pamphlet had.
Next mini adventure, you are probably sick of my journey now! where is she going with this story its so depressing, right. The lady (Pam) in YEOC said don't be discouraged if you got rejected from ALVA try applying for B^2 a business bridge program you just have to be a incoming freshman at UW. Maybe now I would have something to talk when people ask me " so whatcha do this summer?" So I hustled and got in all my paper work on time :) Months past still no response ugh. I though it was just going to be another rejection, back to the drawing board what the heck should I do with my summer? Drivers ed why of course from June to August I spent like 2 days a week learning. <-- sadly my parents didn't own a car so, I was a little rusty compared to the other students with parents who owned cars. Weeks into drivers ed a response congrats you have been accepted to be a part of the B^2 program.
B^2 program gave a scholarship to take Early fall class ( 5 credits) and learn more about business. I end this summer my sharing with you all my chaotic pre-freshman year. Hopefully someone will notice the special person and go out of there way to help.
Comment below, donations are always welcomed. Donations don't have to be the form of cash. It can be art supplies, scholarship, mailing stamps, whatever you like be creative wow me.
